Bringing the Community together
The Working group has put together a Communication and Engagement plan for the development of the Neighbourhood Plan. This sets out the target audience, the methods of communication and responsibilities.
Neighbourhood Plan Working Group meetings are held monthly (usually in the Community Room of Great Barton Village Hall).
Updates on progress are provided in the Parish Council quarterly Newsletter.
A Drop-in session was held on Saturday 21 January 2017 over 150 people attended the event including the local MP.
The drop-in session gave everyone the opportunity to come to the Village hall and learn more about the Neighbourhood Plan, discuss their ideas to influence it and have a cup of coffee. The results are available on the evidence page.
A workshop took place within the regular youth club meeting. The children were divided into smaller workshop groups and asked what they liked and disliked about the village and what they would like to see in the future. The outcomes are available on the Evidence page.
An exhibition was held at school pick-up time. The target audience was parents and teachers, but some pupils also gave their views The Neighbourhood Plan process was summarised and the site known as The Triangle was explained and views sought. The outcomes are available on the Evidence page.
The same information that was displayed at the Primary School event was displayed. The target audience was families and adults who live and visit the village. The outcomes are available on the Evidence page.
A paper copy of the questionnaire was delivered to every household in the Parish of Great Barton. Every resident over the age of 8 was invited to complete the questionnaire which was also available to complete online. The deadline for completion of questionnaires was Sunday 29th October 2017. The Parish Council commissioned Community Action Suffolk to develop a Local Housing Needs Survey. A paper copy of the survey was delivered to every household in the Parish of Great Barton. The survey could be completed on-line or the paper version could be completed and posted direct to Community Action Suffolk in the freepost envelope. The Executive Summary is on the Evidence page.
In April 2018 a postcard was delivered to every household in the Parish of Great Barton inviting residents to attend a Drop-in to discuss and express their views on the sites that were included in the St Edmundsbury Borough Council SHLAA Final Report dated April 2016 and to suggest any other sites that should be considered. Those attending the Drop-in were invited to complete a ballot paper and place it in the ballot box. The results are available on the Evidence page.
In early January 2020 a postcard was delivered to every home in the Parish to advise residents of a Public Consultation on the draft Neighbourhood Plan to be held between Saturday 18 January 2020 and Monday 2 March 2020 (inclusive). The postcard also invited residents to a Drop-in on Saturday 18 January 2020 at Great Barton Village Hall between 10 am and 3 pm to learn more about the Plan and provide comments. The postcard also provides details of where to access a copy of the draft Neighbourhood Plan during the consultation period and how to provide comments.
DROP-IN CONSULTATION EVENT: SATURDAY 18 JANUARY 2020 - 10 am to 3 pm in Great Barton Village Hall.
All residents were invited to the launch of the Public Consultation of the draft Neighbourhood Plan. A copy of the invitation can be found here. This provided the opportunity for residents to examine the the draft plan, to discuss the policies that will affect development within the Parish (including development of The Triangle) and to give feedback on the plan so that any changes could be made before it was submitted to West Suffolk Council.
The period of the Public Consultation ran from Saturday 18 Jan 2020 to Monday 2 March 2020 inclusive.
